Hardness Testing

Hardness Testing – Non-destructive method for assessing the hardness of a material by measuring the depth of an indentation left by an indenter of a specific shape, with a specific force applied for a specific time. The measurement of the size and depth of the indentation is used to evaluate the hardness of the material as a mean to determine the suitability of a material for a given application.

SUMMIT can perform micro-hardness and telebrinel hardness testing to assist you in determining an important metallurgical factor that indicates tensile strength. Our technicians can map out hardness over an area to map out hardness variations or verify hardness to ensure welding or other processes have not created undesired metallurgical effects.
